This basic-level course includes the epidemiology causes and clinical manifestations of Alzheimer's disease. The diagnostic approach to Alzheimer's disease including differential diagnosis diagnostic criteria and diagnostic testing is discussed. The course includes proven preventive measures and effective treatment options for Alzheimer's disease. Descriptions of the roles of physical and occupational therapists and caregiver training for patients with the disease are included. The effect of Alzheimer's disease on family members and caregivers is also addressed.
This course has been approved by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners as meeting continuing education requirements for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.
